Visibility and research impact

Definition:

Academic institutions use various metrics to evaluate research performance. These metrics are also used when evaluating researchers for awards, grants, and other funding possibilities. Mentors should make early career researchers aware that the development of this "research portfolio" of results through time is critically important for long-term academic career development, though aspects of the research impact process and the form of required visibility itself are at times disputed and may change over time.
