Academic/scholarly publishing

Definition:

Academic/scholarly publishing, as a whole, refers to the process involving many players: authors (usually academic researchers, also called "scholars"), publishers (scholarly societies who publish journals, organizations which gather journals into databases which make it possible to search across many journals, editors and peer reviewers who check the quality of submissions, among others), and other entities such as libraries or research organizations who pay for the costs such as web server fees for making content accessible.
