Interdisciplinarity: definition, why important, examples

Definition:

While the concept of “interdisciplinarity” is often thrown around as a buzzword, early career researchers should have a deeper understanding of its various definitions, “typically characterized by the crossing of ‘traditional boundaries’ between academic disciplines or schools of thought to address new and emerging issues (Warwick International Higher Education Academy, 2019).”

Useful resources on Interdisciplinarity:

Warwick International Higher Education Academy. (2019). Interdisciplinarity. https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/cross_fac/academy/keythemes/interdisciplinarity/

Concise definitions and video case studies on the topic from practioners in various disciplines (engineering, advanced teaching and learning, as well as description of benefits from student and employer perspectives).
